Get Caught Reading

Welcome to THE Summitview Library Blog.

The Cat in the Hat is in jail! What? That's right. Dr. Seuss' beloved Cat in the Hat is in jail. Summitview students need to free him in time for Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day on March 2nd. Students need to get caught reading by their teacher or myself. Any student "caught" reading will have their name put on a paper star and be put in jail with Cat. Once we have 200 readers, we will have a PRISON BREAK.

Things are changing in the Summitview library. Stop in to have a look! We have some exciting things happening. We have a poetry contest starting in February. Writer workshops will be taking place in the library during lunch recess. Students must sign up for a time slot and spaces are limited. We are concentrating on haiku poetry. The school with the most published submissions will win $100 for their library. The children will receive all necessary information from their teachers or may pick up a flyer in the library.

The "Star Reader Book Club" will be starting in March for grade 4 children only. This will be an after school program and the book club will meet once a month for the months of March, April, May and June. It is free and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. Please watch for the flyer that will be coming home soon.

"I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells."-- Dr. Seuss.

As I mentioned earlier, March 2nd is Dr. Seuss' birthday and Read Across America Day. We are planning some visits by some special guests on that day. He was a wise man and a clever writer. We will celebrate his life and works by reading his books throughout that week. More to come as the event draws closer.
